OUR
COMMITTEE
We
commit to recruiting the best individuals to serve on our committee.
Economy will be our first consideration in all decisions but integrity
will never be compromised. The Mission Statement will guide all
our decisions.
The
LOBOS committee is dedicated to the idea that all its families should
participate in the process of running the organization. Committee
meetings are open and attendance by any member is encouraged.
Players
for the LOBOS teams are selected during the open spring tryouts held
in May. Coaches, who have been pre-selected for individual age
groups, evaluate new and old players on skill level, abilities and athleticism.
New teams are formed each year. Everyone must tryout as
no guarantees are made that a child will be on the same team from year
to year.
The
LOBOS believe proper training and individual skills development should
be the priority before the win/loss record. We take the
long view that your child should receive the training necessary to
take them to the highest level they can achieve. Our Coaches are
expected to subordinate their egos for the sake of the children.
Our Coaches are evaluated not on their win/loss record but on how
well their players learn the game of soccer. The LOBOS believe
success will come but only as a result of proper training, development
and commitment.
Each
new team is formed and parents must volunteer for various jobs that
help the team operate smoothly. Most important is the team
manager. These individuals administer all the paperwork
required by all the affiliated organizations. Other jobs include
treasurer, fundraiser, publicity, equipment, social/hospitality, etc.
As expected, the teams with the most parental involvement usually
have the best team experience.
Teams
begin their practices during the summer allowing for vacations and other
family events. A LOBOS Summer camp is held, usually
in early July. Toward the end of summer the pace picks up
getting ready for the fall soccer season. Teams will play 10 to
12 league games from late August to late October. There
are many local and out-of-area tournaments the LOBOS teams are able
to attend. Each team picks which, and how, many tournaments they
attend during their season. Tennessee State Tournaments
are held late October or early November and, again, LOBOS teams determine
whether or not they wish to participate. Most teams will
participate in a once a week indoor soccer league over the winter to
keep foot skills sharp. The spring soccer season begins in February
and ends in May just in time for another State Tournament and
the spring tryouts. Between and during seasons special training
sessions are conducted to address specific skills and to promote
conditioning and agility.
The
LOBOS have teams for girls and boys from age nine to seventeen with
some age groups having more than one team. If enough children
who attend tryouts have competitive skills and abilities the LOBOS
will form teams for them.
